One of my favorite rock documentaries of all time is Metallica's 'Some Kind Of Monster' for a couple of reasons.

One, it was cool to see the inside going ons of the making of an album, the inner turmoil, the constant retakes to get the sound right and the bickering to to a point where a psychiatrist had to be brought in.

It gave me an appreciation for the hard work and stress the artists and producers go through to make an album. The second reason was the producer/director of that very famous album was Canadian. One Bob Rock who has produced other big acts (but we will save his accomplishments for another day). So, yes, being Canadian myself, there is a bit of bias.

As you can probably guess, Bob is not the only Canadian producer making their mark with big name mainstream and indie artists. Another one in particular grabbed my attention recently in a submission to my station from a band called The Left Wing Fascists.

Their music and bio was sent to me by lead singer, Big Al Staggs and I was immediately hooked. In their bio, Big Al mentioned that Canadian producer Stacy Heydon had produced an album with the band back in the late 90's and had returned to work on the band's latest album.

Big Al included some interesting background info on Stacy and I decided there was a very worthwhile story being dropped on my lap. I will give you a brief history and then let the very entertaining interview I did with Big Al and Stacy tell the rest of the story.

The Left Wing Fascists formed in Norfolk, Virginia back in the mid to late 80's. Their genre can best be described as: Rock n Roll /Garage Rock /Throwback/ Original/ Rock/ Punk Rock (get all that?). Big Al Staggs and Slicky Bob (the guy who named the band) are the original founding members.
