BIOLOGY

BIOLOGY

GROUP FOUR

IB Biology enables students to explore how living systems work, from the smallest molecules to entire ecosystems.
At both Higher and Standard Level, students study molecular and cell biology, genetics, evolution, ecology, and human physiology, along with more advanced material at Higher Level such as nucleic acids, metabolism, and cell signalling. All students will develop the skills to recognise patterns, understand processes, and apply concepts to new situations.
The course is built around four broad themes: Unity and Diversity, Form and Function, Interaction and Interdependence, and Continuity and Change. These ideas connect topics across different levels of biology, helping students to understand how life is organised and sustained at every scale.
Practical work is a central part of the course. All students design an investigation on a topic of their choice and write a full scientific report after completing the practical work. These projects develop problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, as well as making students more adept at laboratory techniques.
IB Biology fosters a deeper understanding of life and offers excellent preparation for university courses in fields such as biochemistry, environmental science, and biotechnology, as well as medical courses including medicine, dentistry, and veterinary science.
