Extreme Environments ( HL only ) Topics include : the characteristics of cold and high-altitude and hot , arid environments , physical processes creating unique landscapes , opportunities and challenges for agriculture , mineral extraction and tourism , desertification , resource access competition and new technology and sustainable development .
Fieldwork enquiry plays an important role in the study of Geography . This includes a short residential trip to the south Devon coast to complete the internal assessment . There is also a ten-day awe and wonder trip to Morocco ( Marrakech , Essaouri coast , High Atlas mountains and Sahara desert fringe ) during the Easter holiday .
