Akima Acquires Pinnacle Solutions
Akima , NANA ’ s Federal Sector , achieved a significant company milestone in early July with the acquisition of Pinnacle Solutions , a leading provider of innovative training and sustainment products and services to defense customers around the globe . This acquisition is the first by NANA in the federal market since the acquisition of Pegasus in 2009 , and it brings the total number of Akima employees to over 10,000 .
In a press release about the acquisition , Akima President and CEO Bill Monet said , “ We are thrilled to add Pinnacle ’ s innovative technology solutions and capabilities to the Akima family . Pinnacle ’ s talented people and commitment to their customer ’ s mission complements Akima ’ s value-driven culture . Pinnacle will significantly enhance our ability to serve our aerospace customers .”
Based in Huntsville , Alabama , Pinnacle was founded in 2008 by Mike Durant , a retired Army aviator who was shot down while piloting an MH-60 Black Hawk helicopter during the Battle of Mogadishu in 1993 — profiled in both the book and the movie Black Hawk Down . The acquisition significantly bolsters Akima ’ s presence in Huntsville , where the FBI , NASA , the U . S . Army ’ s Redstone Arsenal and other key customers are located .
Adding Pinnacle to NANA ’ s federal sector serves as further confirmation of Akima ’ s growth and momentum in federal markets , which is a core component of the strategy set forth by the NANA Board of Directors nearly two years ago . The acquisition broadens the solutions Akima can offer to customers , ranging from virtual training systems to on-site maintenance of manned and unmanned aircraft . Adding Pinnacle will expand the global reach of NANA and Akima , including additional work in the Middle East and Europe .
