NANA NANA Helps Raise Donations for KOTZ Radio K OTZ Radio is the Voice of the Arctic. In May, NANA hosted a pledge drive to raise critical funds to keep KOTZ on the air. Together, our volunteers, employees, companies and business donors raised $36,834. KOTZ Radio is a touchstone for the region. The Emergency Alert System delivers important emergency information, such as weather warnings, AMBER alerts and local incident information. In case of a national emergency, information is transmitted over KOTZ Radio in under 10 minutes. Where else would we get local news? Hear meetings like the NANA annual meeting or the borough meetings and subsistence meetings? KOTZ broadcasts borough assembly meetings, the governor’s safety meeting and legislative updates. Where else could we listen to basketball tournament games? Or track the Kobuk 440, Iron Dog and Arctic Circle races? Hunters listen to subsistence advisory council meetings and caribou updates from the park service. KOTZ also provides school announcements. It lets people know about Chukchi classes and grant opportunities. KOTZ Radio has made a commitment to provide programming for our community—Tundra Telegrams, song dedications, Eskimo storytelling, local news. Quyanaqpuk to the people who made pledges, donated auction items and bid on them. Thank you, KOTZ. You help tie us together as a community.  Cleanup in the Region Spring brings cleanup efforts across the NANA region to pick up what the snow covered. In Kiana, for every bag of litter, participants received a dollar along with ticket for a drawing. One person picked up more than 150 bags! Included here are photos from the cleanup in Kivalina, Kiana and Noorvik.
