NANA
NANA Shareholder
Relations Coordinators
Support Our Local Schools
O
ver 14,300 shareholders live
throughout the NANA region,
in Alaska and around the world.
Shareholder relations coordinators (SRCs)
provides direct support to shareholders of
all ages—in Anchorage, Fairbanks, and in
the NANA region. This year, in the region,
SRCs helped plan and coordinate several
activities that promote education and training.
The team works with local and regional
organizations to send a positive message
emphasizing the importance of education.
BACK-TO-SCHOOL POTLUCKS
Community potlucks are a way to welcome
students and teachers back to school. For
the past few years, NANA has taken the
lead to organize a back-to-school potluck
in each of the communities in the region.
Thanks to the regional organizations including
Maniilaq Association, Northwest Arctic
Borough, and Northwest Arctic Borough
School District. A big thank you to Teck Alaska
for providing hot dogs and hamburgers, and
to Bering Air and Raven Alaska for shipping
the freight. Taikuu to the local cities, tribes and
stores for helping with this event and for all
their support to the youth throughout the year.
IN THE CLASSROOM
SRCs are often invited into the classrooms to
assist with special projects and especially those
activities involving Elders. This is a special
time for the team. Elders provide guidance
and share their traditional knowledge.
ADULTS SEEKING GED CERTIFICATES
A high school or a GED diploma allows
students to apply for college or employment.
To help shareholders in the region earn
a GED certificate, NANA partners
with the Alaska Technical Center. SRCs
provide support and help find funding for
education and training opportunities.
SHAREHOLDER JOB READINESS
The shareholder relations team works
with shareholders to identify and reach
their educational and career goals. They
provide connections to post-secondary
education, training, grants, scholarships,
internships and job readiness programs.
NANA hosts career fairs for shareholders to
learn about jobs, education and internships
at NANA and other organizations.
Mercedes Herrera and her second grade students—Jason Walton, Kapnaiq Burns, Ryan Adams, Joziah
Bailey, Chester Ashby, Kyleigha Barger, Jerry Shy, and Ethan Ahvakana—with Leslie Niqqaqtuaq Cabinboy,
Noatak’s shareholder relations coordinator.
BACKPACK DRIVE
Over a thousand brand new backpacks
filled with school supplies were distributed
to K-5 students across the NANA region.
Aqqaluk Trust led the project and NANA’s
SRCs coordinated the delivery. Students
were excited to find the new backpacks on
their desks on the first day of school. Donors
included NANA, NANA companies and
employees. Quyanaqpak for the backpacks!
