Merry Christmas and Have a Happy New Year!
Message from the President & CEO
NANA is not just a company; it is a
community. It is filled with people who share
a vision and put their efforts into making it
the best company it can be. We have a staff
of dedicated, hard-working people who help
us deliver on NANA’s mission. Their work is
what makes NANA successful and strong.
came before us. They shared their wisdom
and put this company on a productive
and meaningful path. They did the
hard part, and now it is up to today’s
leaders to carry their vision forward.
Wayne Westlake (right) speaking with shareholders at the 2018 NANA Annual Meeting in Noatak.
T
he holiday season is a special
time when we are reminded of
the importance of family and
friends. We share meals and memories,
worship together, and give gifts to
remind loved ones that we care.
One of my fondest memories of growing up
in Kiana is the community gathering during
the holidays. I remember the anticipation I
felt as the day approached and the excitement
as everyone brought their gifts to the church
to be exchanged. There were so many
presents, we could barely see the tree. New
mukluks, parkas and mittens hung from
the rafters. All of us sat wondering who
would get what. We fidgeted in the pews,
waiting to hear our names called. One
by one, young men distributed presents
until, at last, we could see the tree again.
I can still feel that special joy and the
giving spirit that filled the community.
Whenever I look back on those days, it is
like receiving a gift all over again. I am so
grateful for the village life that gave me
a solid foundation and the people who
helped me become the person I am today.
The same is true when I look back at
NANA’s history. Every day that I work
here, I am thankful for the leaders who
In January and February, we will
travel to meet with you at the Informal
Shareholders meetings. This is a time for
NANA’s leadership to share what has been
accomplished in the past fiscal year and
to present what we see on the horizon.
Then, on March 30, the annual shareholder
meeting will be held in Kobuk – the first
time ever for this village to host the meeting
– another historic event for NANA. You
can keep up with our preparations for
annual meeting through the shareholder
portal on our web site (www.nana.com).
I want to wish all of you and your families
a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
As shareholders, we all have plenty to be
thankful for. I am especially grateful for
what the NANA board, management and
staff have achieved together in the past
year. We can look forward to 2019 with
anticipation to continue building NANA.
