Every now and then in the journey of comedy you come across a person who has made a miraculous and meteoric rise in their comedy career . For this issue we have come across that person , and it is Rip Micheals !
When we initially went to sit down with him , we knew all about Rip being on MTV ’ s hit show Wild N Out , and we knew about Rip taking the show on tour , but what we didn ’ t know was his backstory . And when we discovered his story , we found out he has one of the most amazing stories in comedy we think we have heard in all of the years of producing Humor Mill .
Its really mind boggling , to say the least .
We had a talk with Rip , and Rip stated that not only did he start this journey years ago , but he was homeless for the first couple of years and pretended that he wasn ’ t while trying to “ get on ”. Rip was also a single Dad , who had custody of a young child , his daughter while he was making his way in the comedy world . He hustled , and hustled , making the word GRIND have a new meaning because he had more than one mouth to feed . Before you know it , he was opening for the Wild N Out audience , and then he was actually on the show . Fast forward to April 9 th , Rip eventually was the producer of the Rip Micheals April Fools Comedy Show at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn , which is probably now going to be known as the show where TI was booed at . Regardless of that outcome , the show was still a huge success as 15,000 people came out to see the performers which featured Lil Kim , Michael Blackson , Tony Roberts , B Simone , ( just to name a few ) and was hosted by Rip himself . Now it seems Rip is on the cusp of being a household name and a bona fide star ! As we said in the title , Rip Micheals is truly entering super star status !
