Seriously Ignorant News with It’s 3:55pm on Wednesday in Chicago. Damon Williams is in a radio studio wrapping up his weekly two hour show on Urban Broadcast Media and Humor Mill Radio Network. He quickly goes around the table and asks his guest and co-host what they learned today. This is a hilarious segment which is used to close out the show on a humorous note. Shortly after ending the show he hurries off to the airport to catch a flight to Arizona where he’ll be performing in Tucson. Previous to this week he was in Washington D.C., where he appeared on Roland Martin’s television show “NewsOne Now”. The next day he performed in Baltimore with comedian Tony Woods then again back to the airport to catch a plane to Tupelo, Miss to do another comedy show. Monday he’s back in Chicago to appear on the local television show “Windy City Live”. Tuesday morning he’s up early to do his “Seriously Ignorant News” segment on the nationally syndicated “Tom Joyner Morning Show”. Believe it or not, this is a typical week for the man who is frequently called “the hardest working comedian” in the business today. Doing radio, television and stage is part of his carefully planned strategy. “Actually I want to be a master of all media. That includes film, television, radio and social media” says Williams. “I want to bring laughter and possibly drama to the masses”. He is well on his way to accomplishing this goal. On top of all of his other endeavors, Williams also host a television show in Chicago titled “Cultural Exchange” and has a monthly comedy show in Milwaukee every first Sunday of the month where he features touring comedians. Just reading the details of this grueling schedule will make most people tired, but Damon has been working at this pace before he entered the comedy arena. Growing up on Chicago’s South Side, Williams first tried his hand at rapping. “I actually cut 5 tracks with Grammy nominated producer and DJ Steve Silk Hurley.” He decided he didn’t like being in the music business. “The music game is grimy and it takes a lot of effort to get on so I kept it moving!” He jokingly replies. After that learning experience, he worked several different jobs after and saved up enough money to purchase his own Subway Sandwich franchise. Several years of being a “sandwich artist” he saw a new comedy club open up down the street. This club was the legendary All Jokes Aside. He decided to give comedy a try and this opened the gates to his comedy career. After numerous performances on open mike night, Williams quickly rose to house emcee and began sharing the stage with comedian such as Jaime Foxx, D.L. Hughley and Steve Harvey. In 1999, Damon established himself as one of the elite comics in the nation when he performed for over 300,000 fans as the opening act for the highly successful Kings of Comedy Tour. Soon to follow was various television appearances including BET, HBO and a short stint as the host of “Showtime At The Apollo”. Although his touring schedule began to increase he was able to maintain a strong hold in the comedy scene in Chicago. He hosted several one nighters throughout the city including “Funny First Saturdays” which quickly became one of the most popular comedy shows in Chicago. 32 32
