BEWARE OF THE PLASTICS

Naturally teenagers are self conscious due to the changing of their physical appearance. When teenagers compare themselves to their friends or actors/actresses they look down on themselves and no longer believe they look good enough. Social media makes a drastic impact on teens. It makes teens believe society has standards to look or weight a certain way because then your not considered perfect. And that is when plastic surgery comes along.

What is plastic surgery? Plastic surgery is a special type of surgery that involves changing a person’s appearance. Plastic surgeons can change a persons appearance by either performing a reconstructive or a cosmetic procedure. Reconstructive procedures “correct” the flaws on the face and body. These include birth abnormalities, traumatic injuries, birth defects and etc. Cosmetic procedures alters the body parts in which a person isn't content with. Common cosmetic procedures include the increasing or reducing of breast, reshaping of the nose, the removing of excess fat also known as liposuction and laser surgery to remove unwanted hair.

Wanting to look perfect teens automatically turn to plastic surgery. In 2012 more than 236,000 cosmetics procedures on teens between thirteen and nineteen years of age underwent a surgical procedure like that of nose reshaping, breast lifts, liposuction, tummy tucks and genital surgery. Teenagers bodies are still maturing and girls of ages between the ages of eighteen through twenty one still gain weight. Therefore ,its complicated if a girl wants breast implants because their body are constantly changing. In “The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery”, they stated that 12% on cosmetic procedures performed in the United States increased in 2013. Studies show that women within the first three years after their surgical procedure experience serious complications such as infections, hematomas and seromas, capsular contracture (pain in the breasts), loss of nipple sensation, and hypertrophic scarring. Breast implants typically last ten years and so adolescents will be required to rapidly undergo numerous surgeries throughout their lifetime. Also, breast implants mess up mammography and difficulty when breast feeding. Liposuction also carries risks that damage skin, nerves or vital organs, fat or blood clot, and excessive fluid loss that may lead to shock than death.

Though plastic surgery is thought of a bad thing sometimes plastic surgery is necessary for some people who suffer from diseases. Diseases cause abnormalities and often times deformities. Because of this patients often undertake plastic surgery to change their appearance or the abnormalities.
