BEAUTY HAS

ITS RISKS

Cosmetics also known as makeup are substances used to help enhance appearance, odor, and general attractiveness. Cosmetics include creams, lotions, powders, perfumes, lipstick, nail polish, eye and facial make up, and so on. Yes, these items seem to have a positive impact on people when it comes to their self expression, but cosmetics do have downfalls when you don't take care of yourself.

Over the coming years many men and women have started using cosmetics more and more. 80% of women and 54% of men use some type of cosmetics and roughly start to use them around the age of 11. Though many people use cosmetics, people who don't know the effects of them are more likely to get sensitive skin, acne, red spots, etc.

You’re moisturizer: Moisturizer is a lotion or cream used to prevent dryness in the skin. Moisturizer starts to fight with your skin, so if you do not properly remove your makeup, old make up will clog pores, and blocks the replenishment of your night time skin regimen. Your skin repairs itself while you sleep, so by leaving makeup you are stopping it from doing so.

Solution: Remove makeup with a cleanser that matches your skin type to wash away your make up and then use moisturizers.

Waxing: Facial skin is very delicate and a popular way to get rid of hair is by waxing. Waxing with waxing strips can be painful and when removing them from the skin can cause infections, bruises and even hair to begin growing in different directions.

Solution: Try tweezing, using an epilator, shaving, or threading.

Nail Polish: Nail polish is also very popular and comes in many colors and designs. A downfall to wearing nail Polish is that it stains your nails and turns them yellow especially with reds and blacks. If your nail polish has acetone in it it means its more likely to weaken and damage your nail strength because it is a harsh chemical.

Solution: Use organic nail polishes or just simply take a break from dark colors.

Lipstick: We ingest about 75% of it by the end of the day. Researchers have discovered over 32 different products of lipsticks that contain lead, chromium, aluminum, and magnesium and because they are ingested, they can cause cancer.

Solution: Pay attention to warning labels, wash your hands before applying, never share your lipstick, and tightly secure lids.

Mascara: Mascara can cause blindness as it contains pseudomonas aeruginosa (Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a bacterium that is normally found in moist or wet areas) which is a very harmful. The use of mascara can cause some eyelashes to be removed which leads to a higher risk of catching debri.

Solution: Macara usually expires after 3 months, so its best to replace it then. Always clean your eyes with whips and moisturizers.
