Greetings fellow Hultians! I hear many of you are planning to rotate to Dubai during either or both Modules D and E. I get a lot of questions about the U.A.E along the lines of, “is it safe?” “May I walk around the country without a Bukha?” All this is possible and more. The United Arab Emirates has welcomed its arms to all cultures and it has done well to accommodate everyone as best as they could keeping the Islamic culture in mind.

I have compiled a list of things for you to know and see before you head to the city where I was born and raised

Firstly, things you should know (not in numerical order)

• Ramadan: For those of you moving to Dubai, U.A.E during Mod D, you will experience Muslims observing Ramadan. It will be observed from May the 15th until June the 14th. Muslims all over

the world fast

from sunrise to

sunset. Bear in

mind, you are not

allowed to smoke,

drink or eat out-

doors during the

fasting period. But do

not worry, the food

courts in malls do serve

food and restaurants offer take out and delivery as well.

• Car: You will not be able to obtain a license in the U.A.E., however, you are allowed to rent a car.

• Zomato: Consider Zomato as the Grubhub of the U.A.E. Its an amazing mobile application for us students; when you’re hungry, go onto the app and get food delivered to your doorstep for FREE! Consider this, if there’s a restaurant or café that isn’t listed on Zomato, well, its just sad!

• Uber: Keep in mind guys, uber in Dubai is much more

expensive

than the govern-

ment cabs and they’re quite accessible. So always take the government cabs, they’re absolutely safe and will get you where you have to go.

• Dubai Sports World: The Trade Centre in Dubai converts its some of its conference halls into a sporting facility during the summer so that us active

you have issues! Dubai has been chosen as hosts of the World Expo which will be held in the year 2020 and will run for 6 months. Before you move to the U.A.E., please do read up on the world expo! Might help in job interviews too!

Secondly, some of the things you must definitely check out while you’re in Dubai!

• Burj Khalifa: It is the tallest sky scraper in the world and the view from the observation deck is absolutely breathtaking! Bear in mind, you will need to book in advance as there are limited spots!

• Skydiving: Skydive Dubai gives you an experience like no other. Gives you the view of new Dubai, the Palm Jumeirah (man made island shaped like a palm tree).
