September deluge
To say Windsor-Essex got a lot of rain in the final days of September 2016 is an
understatement. Here are the facts, by the numbers, from the 48+ hour
downpour of September 28 to 30:
2 State of Emergency orders, in Windsor and Tecumseh
10 customer service reps were fielding calls in Tecumseh September 29 with
approximately 330 calls received
30 calls responded to by OPP from stranded motorists and other calls regarding
drivers
40 calls mainly related to flooded basements responded to by Tecumseh Fire
Services
78 mm of rain measured at Windsor Airport
100 license plates that were dislodged from cars going through the water too quickly
recovered by OPP.
106 mm measured on east end rain gage
190 mm measured in Town of Tecumseh
300 mm an hour - the rate the rain was falling at one point. That’s a foot of water
coming down each hour.
500+ submissions through Tecumseh’s website to the flood survey.
1500+ flood-related calls received at 311 by October 1.
