My newsfeed in October included a feel-good story about a
woman with Down Syndrome in Argentina who became Latin
America’s first teacher with Down Syndrome. While the story
gave me happy chills, it also brought to the forefront some of
the staggering numbers that exist when it comes to people
with disabilities and employment.
In the 2012 Canadian Survey on Disability, approximately 10
per cent of the potential Canadian workforce had a disability.
Of this 10 per cent, more than half were unemployed.
