Eva Antonel has been a resident of Essex County for the past 43 years. She has gone to school, married, raised a family, met lifelong friends and made a living by working with books and magazines in this, her chosen city. When she is not working with words, she is either reading or writing them for pleasure. Rolling out an issue of The Hub takes an entire team - writers, photographers, editors. Here’s the team that came together for the November 2013 issue - we're glad we got to connect with them and hope their stories and photos connect with you. Paige Vanderbeck is entering her second year in the Tourism & Travel program at St. Clair College, and previously studied history, French and humanities at Douglas College in Vancouver. In her spare time she is an avid cyclist, bad movie enthusiast and record collector. She shares a downtown appartment with a very surly rabbit named Jimmy Hoppa. Her adventures can be found on Twitter at @PaigeVOnTheRoad. Angelica Haggert has two BAs from the University of Windsor and is beginning the pursuit of a diploma from St. Clair College. She loves all things theatre, words, chips & dip and giraffes. She’s spending the summer as a camp director at a local day camp. Jolene Perron is an 18-year-old Amherstburg resident who is passionate about writing and photography. She studies journalism at St. Clair College and owns Perron Photography. In the past, she has worked with The River Town Times in Amherstburg and The Converged Citizen at the Mediaplex. Michael Haggert is one of those guys who literally puts the food on the table for his wife and daughters. While he waits for the city to realize backyard chickens are a good idea, he’s making his own pasta, putting up jam from the backyard berries or canning sauce from his homegrown tomatoes. Veronique Mandal is a nurse, actor, writer, playwright, journalist and professor. She is presently head of the MediaPlex at St. Clair College where she also teaches full time in the Journalism and Media Convergence programs. She has worked as a journalist for the CBC, BBC, TV Cogeco, the Windsor Star, Manchester Co-op News and the National Post. She has won more than two dozen provincial, national and international awards for her work in broadcasting, newspapers and magazines, including being named Journalist of the Year. Veronique has served on 14 boards of directors and is presently a member of the board of The Hospice. Shelley Divnich Haggert reads, writes and teaches in Windsor, and has been part of the local & national magazine industry for 13 years. She has three daughters, and is “Grandma” to a hedgehog , a parakeet and a min pin/poodle cross. She lives with her husband, teenager and Thor, a dog who’s afraid of thunder. Adam D’Andrea was born and raised in Windsor. He has a degree in history and political science from the University of Windsor and is currently taking journalism at St. Clair College. He is also an avid drummer, a pop culture fanatic and knows far more about The Simpsons than the average person should. Alex Antonel is a LaSalle native living in Toronto. By day she vegetates in a cubicle, proofreading romance novels. By night she weaves through crowds at rock shows, samples craft beers and marks up erroneous ads on the subway with her blue Sharpie. Whether it’s writing, acting, singing or dancing, Sean Previl is constantly on the go. He has a passion for journalism, runs SP Photography and writes for The Converged Citizen. Sean is also the editor-in-chief of Arbitrage Magazine. He can be found on Twitter @SeanPrevil or through www.seanprevil.com. November 2013 - The HUB 5
