gymnasium . The facility allowed the college to attract and recruit athletes from outside the region , bringing more students into its varsity athletics programs on campus .
In 2015 , St . Clair College opened another long-anticipated project - Schlegel Villages ’ The Village at St . Clair . A unique collaboration , more than 250 residents call the care facility home , assisted through various care programs by students and educators . The $ 35 million dollar facility provides hands-on learning opportunities for students in nursing and support worker programs .
The Thames Campus has also expanded to meet increasing enrolment and program development . It now offers a student residence and brand new HealthPlex .
It ’ s obvious through Totten ’ s continued involvement with the college that St . Clair often becomes home to those who step through its doors . You ’ ll find St . Clair College graduates remaining involved with the college regardless of which generation they represent . Crystal Benn is another graduate who has yet to leave the St . Clair fold . As one of the first Entertainment Technology students , Benn came to Windsor to attend a new and innovative program that was unique .
“ Nothing else compared to the Entertainment Technology program in Ontario .”
Benn has never regretted the move . “ Choosing St Clair was a big decision , but one I ’ m glad I made . I moved from Brantford , not knowing anyone here and it ’ s been the best choice I ever made .”
After receiving her diploma , Benn remained on staff for the SRC , St . Clair ’ s student representative council , as the event production coordinator . “ Staying actively involved was my opportunity to help current and new students get the most of their college experience ,” she said . “ Being able to coordinate events for students , including orientation week and special events means I get to interact with as many students as possible , helping the college live up to their dreams and expectations .”
Benn ’ s program at the college has also given her a multitude of opportunities within the Windsor arts community . Currently house manager for the Olde Walkerville Theatre , Benn has also worked with the Arts Collective Theatre , Riverfront Theatre Company , and local entertainment company New Dimensions .
Faculty past and present , alumni and current students are all doing their part to make this special anniversary a year long celebration . You can take a virtual stroll down Memory Lane on the St . Clair College anniversary website . Or follow St . Clair ’ s goal of committing 50 “ Acts From the Heart ,” which so far have included fashion design students making dresses to send to Africa and a Rock Your Socks event to raise funds and awareness for Down Syndrome . Students councils at both campuses are asking students to “ Show Your Colours ,” by entering monthly draws for St . Clair College gear - sweatshirts , water bottles and more are given away each month .
