May brings spring flowers, rain showers,
and lots of sunshine - but it also brings
Mother’s Day and plenty of unique
opportunities to get out there and explore
Windsor-Essex with Mom. Our calendar is
chock full of May events for everyone, but
here are some ideas for those special
moments with Mom.
Take in a live show with one of Windsor’s
many talented community theatre companies
- like Grease with Windsor Light Music
Theatre, playing at the St. Clair Centre for the
Arts on the first two weekends in May.
Riverfront Theatre Company also presents
Princess Whatshername at the Olde
Walkerville Theatre near the end of the
month.
Another great place to take Mom is one
of the many Mother’s Day teas happening
around Windsor-Essex. On May 10, stop by
the local favourite tea event at Willistead
Manor. Is tea not your … well, not your cup
of tea? You and Mom can join Bikes & Beers
on the 16th for a cycling tour of local
breweries for leukemia fundraising.
Ready to get outside in the sun? The
Friends of Point Pelee hosts the Festival of
Birds from May 1 to May 18. Located at Point
Pelee National Park, participants can learn
about the local lakes, complete the 100
Species Challenge, or take a bird photography
walk with a nature specialist. Chances are,
Mom took you exploring at Point Pelee when
you were a young ‘un – it’s time to return the
favour. And you can stop for lunch or supper
in picturesque Leamington or Kingsville on
the way home.
Express your delight with spring by
showing off your toes! Head to a local spa or
nail salon for a pedicure with Mom. Go bold
with bright colours. Prefer getting dirty to
getting dolled up? Grab a spade and some
perennials and get digging in the backyard
garden, side by side. Or work together to build
and paint a gnome-door, or repurpose a table
or bunk bed ladder by p
