March is Nutrition Month !
Join the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit for a month of learning and fun ! The 2017 Nutrition Month campaign is titled Take the Fight out of Food . It highlights a three-step approach to help you bring joy back to eating . Try this approach to help you answer questions and concerns about food and your health :
1 . Spot the problem .
Identify what questions or concerns you have about food and nutrition . Are you finding it difficult to detect false nutrition information ? Do you have questions about your digestive health ? Are you having trouble with family members who are picky eaters ? Do you overeat when you feel stressed ? Or are you trying to manage an existing health problem through a better diet ?
2 . Get the facts .
Use facts from reliable sources to decide what you need to do to solve the problem or issue . There are many trustworthy sources of information on the internet , and many that are not reliable at all . Visit websites like EatRight Ontario www . eatrightontario . ca or Dietitians of Canada www . dietitians . ca for reliable information and articles on many different health and nutrition topics . You can also call toll-free at 1-877-510-5102 to speak with a Registered Dietitian .
3 . Seek support .
No matter how much information you get from the internet or well-meaning family and friends , it is still important to talk to your primary health care provider

about your concerns , especially if you are managing a chronic condition , such as diabetes or high blood pressure . Don ’ t self-diagnose . Be sure to seek support from a regulated health care professional to come up with a plan to meet your goals . For example , a Registered Dietitian can work with you to make mealtimes more enjoyable , or coach you to become more mindful when eating . They can also provide individualized support if you need a special diet to manage a chronic condition .
