each age range . Their youngest box is designed for ages 3-4 , with 2-3 creative activities and a parent guide to engage learning further . Their Doodle Crate and Tinker Crate are targeted for ages nine and up , offering art or STEM ( Science , Technology , Engineering and Math ) activities .
Mail Order Mystery is a “ no batteries required ” subscription service , delivering a mystery through mailed installments . Each mailing contains things like hand-written letters , newspaper clippings , maps or keys , and requires basic coding and decryption skills . The final installment reveals the answer to the mystery . Each mystery contains six installments , and they have four different mysteries to choose from - and it is a Canadian company !
The trend is so popular , companies have banded together to create a Subscription Summit . The second annual summit will be held in Texas at the end of May , and over 400 people are expected to be in attendance .
The element of surprise may be one of the big things that keep subscription boxes so popular .
“ I think it has a lot to do with the fact that people enjoy surprises ,” said Justine . “ The best part of getting a gift is when it ' s still all wrapped up in the box .”
