second season in business this summer and was the first place
in the city to embrace Kawartha Dairy ice cream offerings. With
signature sundaes and homemade waffle cones, this little shop
is a great end to your farmer’s market Saturday.
Peerless, T-Bears, Slinky’s … the list goes on and on.
Even local bakeries are in on the ice cream action, with
Sweet Revenge Bake Shop serving up ice cream macaron
sandwiches and Riverside Pie Cafe adding a scoop to your slice.
Can you really notice a difference in where your ice cream
comes from? If someone brought a scoop home to you, would
you be able to tell if it was Kawartha Dairy or Chapman’s?
Morgan Lachapelle, local ice cream lover, says yes.
“The less expensive brands are suitable in a pinch, but I
definitely prefer the more expensive ice creams,” said
Lachapelle.
“I can tell the difference between Kawartha and anything
else.”
Franchise ice cream Baskin Robbins takes top of the list for
Lachapelle. “My favourite ever, ever, EVER is ‘Love Potion’ from
Baskin Robbins,” she said. The ice cream franchise is the
world’s biggest, introducing more than a thousand flavours
since 1945.
For Lachapelle, ice cream isn’t just delicious - it is memories
of family summertime backyard parties from her childhood.
“I don’t have a sad memory related to ice cream,” said
Lachapelle.
