Endangered Places Assumption Church, a well-known and much-discussed heritage location in Windsor, has been added to another list. In late May, Heritage Canada The National Trust identified Assumption as one of the 2015 Top Ten Endangered Places. Our Lady of Assumption Church is a prominent landmark steeped in history, serving the oldest continuously operating Roman Catholic parish in Ontario, with roots dating back to the early 18th century. Owned by the Roman Catholic Diocese of London, the building's doors were closed indefinitely by the Bishop in November 2014, with parishioners now worshipping elsewhere. In the meantime, portions of the brick facade are crumbling. Substantial funds are needed to make essential upgrades and repairs. There is no indication of the Diocese's intentions for the future of the building. Literary Arts Bookfest Windsor may be several months away, but the committee hosts several literary events throughout the year to support our literary arts community and BookFest. One such event is the Student Writing Contest, with a June submission deadline - see page TK for details. Another event is the 2015 Midwest Book Awards Finalist Lev Raphael visit to Windsor for a special discussion about writing, faith and the Holocaust, which is also a fundraiser for BookFest Windsor. June 4 8:00 pm Olde Walkerville Theatre Lev Raphael has published over 25 books including notable fiction and non-fiction titles about Holocaust survivors. Tickets for this event are being sold on a reservation basis. Please contact Christina Woods, 519-997-2886 to place your order. June 2015 - The HUB 17
