There’s more than just
walking around listening

tavern. Dale says that he hopes the craft beer from the
fort hops will be ready to serve that night and it should
be a great night.
"It's gonna be a fun weekend that is certainly
going to be a change from the style of events we have
done in the past.”
In addition to their classic activities, the Fort
Malden Historic Site has added new things to do this
year.
"One cool one we have added is a new half hour
escape room in our marquee," said Dale. "It is an
escape room in a tent essentially. It's really well put
together by one of our incredibly creative students,
who helped me in creating an escape room in the
barracks last year. We still offer that escape room as
well. It's a one hour escape room on Thursday nights
but now during the day we offer a half hour escape
room."
There is still a fee for the enhanced programs even
though entry into the fort is free this year. The daily
escape room is $11.70 for a half hour and operates on
a first come first served basis. The hour escape room
has to be booked in advance and it's only on Thursday
nights for $24.50.
Other events that take you back in time do not
need to be booked in advance. In September, in
partnership with the Maidstone Area Bicentennial
Museum, the winter community fund and the town of
Amherstburg the Fort will host a voyager rendezvous,
with canoes and fur traders and demonstrations on
fur trading.
A murder mystery will take place on July 22, held
by high school students. There’s also the Arts by the
River event and HarvestFest this year at the fort.
The fort is looking into offering advanced tickets
for their haunted fort that is done in partnership with
a local youth centre. They have done it for a couple of
years Dale says, and last year it was so popular they
were having tours sell out. People arriving to find it
had been sold out for the night was not a fun
experience.
