It all started in November 2015 when the two Buffalo Wild Wings employees took a shot and applied for Canada ’ s largest adventure race . They ’ d only known each other for a little over a year but their application video said it all . When asked why the two should be chosen for the show , they both responded with “ why not pick us ?” “ We ’ re people people ,” said Brandon . Their outgoing and humorous personalities secured their spot on the Amazing Race Canada and started their preparation for the adventure of a lifetime .
But it wasn ’ t just their personalities that landed them a spot . Anthony and Brandon also needed to prove they had what it takes to be successful in the competition . Reading maps , kayaking , traveling long distances , knowledge of certain areas and how to speak different languages and swinging from monkey bars at extreme heights were only a few of the tasks contestants would be faced with .
And like most reality TV shows , the process of applying and qualifying is out of the ordinary . Throughout the winter of 2015-2016 , Anthony and Brandon had periodic trips to Toronto and multiple sleepovers at each other houses . And it all had to be done in secret . Only a select few actually knew what the two were really up to when they came up with their lie of preparing for , and traveling to , South East Asia .
Even before the two were chosen for the show , they were both well traveled . Brandon was a Travel and Tourism student at St . Clair College and has traveled to Central America . Anthony has traveled across Europe . But unlike other trips , this one didn ’ t give them time to stop and soak in the scenery or snap a couple of pictures and update to Facebook .
“ Race mode is definitely different than travel mode ,” said Brandon . “ You ’ re so focused you develop tunnel vision . All you think about is getting to the next clue and then the one after . Even if it ’ s the most beautiful place ever , you ’ re just focused on the task at hand .”
Anthony agrees . As an example , he even said if you have a fear of heights , your adrenaline kicks in and the desire to finish weighs too much to stop . Especially when you ’ re competing for a great cause .
Sticking with that Windsor tradition of generosity , Anthony and Brandon knew before the race they would donate some of their winnings to charity . But it wasn ’ t until their workplace put on a fundraiser for the boss ’ s niece , a little girl named Zoey who suffers from multiple disabilities , that they made their final decision . The two chose to race for Zoey , aiming to fund a specialized van and get her the help she deserves .
