CONNECTING
Two years. Two years?
It hardly seems possible, but that’s how long we’ve been publishing
The Hub and bringing together people and ideas from our region. In that
time, we’ve formed new connections and relationships with so many
people and organizations in the area – the Downtown Farmers’ Market,
our dedicated advertisers, our enthusiastic contributors. And although it’s
been a lot of work, it’s been a lot of fun, too. And interesting! Just from
assigning and editing articles, I’ve learned about so many things, from
energy healing to environmental initiatives, from local artists to local
activism.
To celebrate the occasion, we’re officially forming our own tradition –
free cake for you from us at the Downtown Market on July 18. And we’re
offering you a great contest opportunity – you could win a dinner cruise
for you and three friends on the beautiful Macasa Bay, from Windsor River
Cruises. Details for both are inside this issue of The Hub, so don’t miss out!
July is a laid-back time; isn’t summer vacation supposed to be? We’re
of that opinion, so in this issue you’ll read about the relaxation and other
benefits of yoga, as well as how you can take an easy stroll through Ford
City. You’ll also find our regular columns, useful information in our
Hubbub and our trusty activity calendar. If it’s happening in July, you’ll
find it in The Hub.
Remember that our pages are live-linked; you can click through in
the appropriate spots to find out more about our advertisers, local
organizations, events and ideas. And if you’re going to be reading The Hub
in a summer cottage without wifi, you can download the issue ahead of
time onto your tablet or smartphone.
In the meantime, my own deckchair and backyard are beckoning –
enjoy the sunshine (fingers crossed!) and we’ll see you in August!
It was two years ago this month that we put together the first issue of
The Hub. It was thrilling to see the idea take shape and bounce across the
ether into your homes and hands. Surprisingly, the excitement has not
waned as we continue each month to reinvent the pages of the magazine to
mirror the latest goings on in Windsor-Essex.
Just as the magazine continues to reflect the changes in our
community, we often showcase the neighbourhoods that have managed to
do the same. Ford City, as it has often been called, continues to reinvent
itself after parting ways with Ford Motor Co. Regardless of past triumphs
and struggles you can see pride of place and heritage as grass roots
initiatives continue to bring about new attitudes and ideas. As a friend
often says, "Some of the finest citizens of Windsor came from Drouillard
Rd," and those with vision are working hard to make sure that will
continue to be the case.
If you've thought about introducing yoga into your life, we give you a
glimpse of the many ways you can make that possible. It will enrich your
life regardless of your lifestyle.
As we look forward with anticipation to the next year of The Hub, we
pause whenever possible and take time to catch our breath and celebrate
our good fortune. How else would you describe the privilege of taking
stock of all that's best about our region? We talk to fellow residents, take
photographs of where we live, work and play, and wrap it all up for you in a
monthly chronicle of our lives.
In order to share the celebration with you, we're planning on sending
4 of you on a river cruise down the Detroit River. You'll find the what,
where and how in the pages of this issue. Namaste!
