It is a consensus among residents of the neighbourhood that image is the number one problem for the area. If you mention Drouillard Road to long-time Windsorites, everything negative comes to mind. Before my stroll down Droullard and welcome by the residents, I thought the same. I’m happy to report that when you go to that area now, that image will be wrong. Councillor Sleiman has had a place in his heart for the old city for a long time. Fifteen years ago, while working on other committees he used to get in his truck, fill it with a bunch of barrels of water and water the plants in Ford City with a few other residents, it runs in his blood to care. Now, as the new Ward 5 councillor, he spends his time working with the residents to change the image. The concerned citizens, business owners and activists that met with me spoke as a whole about the many reasons why people should give Ford City a chance. They look out for each other, their customers are loyal and they say it’s still a small town wedged into a big city. Coming from a small town myself, I agree.
