For the budget-minded yogi, practicing at home might be a better option than a studio-based class, although The Yoga House also offers classes on a donation basis. Both home-based and studio-based yoga practices have their own advantages. In class, you can feel more focused and motivated, working in a room full of like-minded people. At a studio, instructors are present to provide guidance and assistance. Practicing from home goes beyond just being cost-effective. Many yoga classes are an hour long, which a busy lifestyle doesn’t always accommodate. At home I can do yoga in fifteen minute increments whenever I have time. I also get to listen to whatever music I like, and my dog Franklin seems at least curious, if not calmed, by my movements. I can work at my own pace and don’t feel pressured to switch to a different pose, or I don’t feel discouraged if I can’t quite nail something and everyone else can. The WiiFit and Youtube do the trick for me, and I really love the upper body yoga movements and yoga in a chair practice. From work to home, those work the best for me. The beauty of it is, yoga has something to offer absolutely everyone - young to old, physically fit to the not-so-fit - get out there and see what yoga has to offer you. Types of Yoga Ashtanga: a traditional, but rigorous, yoga practice that repeats the moves in the same order every time Bikram: “hot” yoga, and takes place in artificially heated rooms Iyengar: focuses on extremely specific and proper alignment, taking time to perfect each pose Restorative: uses blankets and boxes to prop participants in specific poses Vinyasa: often set to music and choreographed, with less routine than traditional yoga Acro: combines yoga and acrobatics Casa Chavela Gifts And Clothing From Around the World With A Fair Trade Perspective Tapestries u Masks u Jewellery u Incense Singing Bowls u Tingshas Hand-carved Buddhas u Smudging Supplies Join us for our 30th Anniversary Celebration Sunday July 12 1:30 - 6:30 Snacks, Sales, Surprises! 405 Pelissier St. Windsor 519-254-6865 facebook.com/casachavela
