OPEN STREETS 2017
On Sunday September 17 , Open Streets returns to close eight kilometres of city streets to vehicle traffic . Joining forces with Ontario 150 , Open Streets this year will feature a hub at Janette Ave . and University Ave . focused entirely on the history of the province . This hub will feature 3D printing , multicultural performances and cookies .

FURNITURE BANK CLOSES DOORS
Opened in April 2016 , the Windsor Furniture Bank , housed at the old Science City , is closing its door this August . Over 1,300 people have used the furniture bank , but the organization is losing its space on August 15 . Organized by the Downtown Windsor Community Collaborative and area churches , the bank was mainly used by refugees to Windsor and has served more than 500 families in just-over-a-year of operation . INDIGENOUS FACULTY @ U WINDSOR
The University of Windsor is hiring five full-time Indigenous professors as part of a new President ’ s Indigenous Peoples Scholars Program . The university is looking for First Nations , Inuit and Metis across all disciplines . In 2011 , U Windsor faced a grievance over the lack of diversity in its faculty and has been working to amend that issue in the last few years . Currently , 10 per cent of faculty members are Indigenous .
WEST NILE IN WINDSOR
The first local human case of West Nile was confirmed in Windsor this July . So far , the WECHU has positively tested six mosquito pools for West Nile in the area . Although most people develop no symptoms when infected with West Nile , the disease can cause severe problems including paralysis and neurological damage .
