Peche Island
Quick Facts
400 metres from Windsor’s coast
The island has an area of 86 acres
Early French maps name the island Isle
du Large (at a distance)
The island was once owned by Hiram
Walker and later by Boblo Island Park
diversity the island has to offer.
“There are areas that are loud and busy, but others that are
quiet and serene. They pack so much into what’s really a small
island.”
Many locals may have only been canoeing at Point Pelee,
exploring the marsh. Crossing the river is a different story
altogether.
“I like paddling the Peche canals much better than Point
Pelee's marsh. To me it is a lot greener, more things to see,”
said Chauvin. “It is also a lot closer for me and there are no
entrance fees.” Something free to do in Windsor-Essex is
definitely a kind of adventure I’m always down for.
Ridpath put it perfectly.
“You get to escape from everything, but still be close to
home,” she said.
Why not get out there and explore what Peche Island has
to offer? If you don’t have access to a boat of your own, check
out the WECCC and join their next trip to the island. We’ll see
you across the water!
The island is now a City of Windsor park
There are picnic areas and washrooms
on the island for visitors
