Humans
Of
Windsor
Story and photos by Justin Prince
On one of the hottest days of the year, most people would usually indoors to
avoid the heat. But amid the concrete confines of downtown Windsor, the Alley
Art Show and Sale - held in cozy Maiden Lane West in July - was packed with
people. Within the crowd, a small group of people gathered around two street
performers on a bed of nails. Windsor native John Lam was part of the crowd.
As soon as the performers - part of the more than 50 urban artists performing
or selling their art - finished their silent act, Lam followed them into one of the
side alleys. Lam, with his Canon Rebel T5i and iPhone in hand, caught them
before they could change out of their costumes.
Within a few minutes, the two women - one dressed as a mime, the other as a
ringleader - were posing for a photograph in front of the bed of nails. Then Lam
began to interview them, trying to find that one story or caption to use with the
photo for his new website, Humans of Windsor.
