hen our Fourth and Sixth Grade classes departed for their fall outdoor education trips to Shaw Nature Reserve and the Rocky Mountains last year, none of us could have predicted how different the fall of 2020 would look. CDS Outdoor Education has become an important part of the curriculum in our upper grades. Even before we were all asked to stay home, scores of CDS students learned firsthand about the rich and exciting learning opportunities in the great outdoors. We look forward to loading up the Chester Express for more adventures soon.

Thankfully in today's “new normal”, we’re reminded that our region has an abundance of beautiful parks and trails—even mountains!—to explore, all within a short drive from St. Louis. Add a little outdoor education to your weekend by packing up the car and enjoying the outdoors together as a family.

On these pages, learn about some of our area's best outdoor recreation spots, all within 2.5 hours of home.
