The Milgauss was first introduced to the market in the 1950s , designed for use in areas of high electro-magnetic radiation , such as research labs or power stations . The influence of radiation on a watch results in losing time keeping accuracy , so Rolex introduced the ‘ Faraday Cage ’ to counter the effects of radiation . The cage is an inner iron case that shields the watch movement from outside energy .
Reference 1019 was introduced after reference 6541 and 6543 . The present watch features a rare matte black dial , and is preserved in very original and crisp condition .
