Westview School Board
by Jerry Hostetler
The Westview Board of Education
met on Thursday, August 8 for their
regular monthly meeting. Superintendent, Randy Zimmerly announced that
the Indiana School Board Association
(ISBA) fall conference will be September 23 and 24. Dr. Zimmerly also told
the board that there were some policies
and administrative guidelines being
reviewed and that they would come to
the board at their September meeting.
Wireless internet has been installed and is working at all Westview
sites. Laptop computers were distributed to teachers this summer and will
now have network access anywhere in
the school building. Two mobile computer labs were purchased, one each for
Topeka and Shipshe-Scott. The computers were purchased to relieve the back-
log created by online state testing and
they will provide more access to online
curriculum materials for students
and staff. Westview has done a major
upgrade to their computer network
switches and it was reported that they
seem to be operating as designed. In
other technology news, it was reported
that the new phone system is operating, but some problems with faxing
has occurred and was in the process
of being resolved. The board is asking
that if anyone has trouble reaching the
school via phone, that they report it, so
that the problem can be addressed and
resolved as soon as possible.
Other board happenings included
the approval by the board of the classified wage scale. Most employee groups
received a 1% raise on the new scale.
The board also discussed implementing incentive awards in addition to
the raises being paid in special pays.
This will be further discussed at the
September and October school board
meetings.
