proves that with patience and leaders,
governments working together for a
common goal can be a reality!
If you wish to assist with Shipshewana Park efforts as a volunteer or
donate toward making the Park facilities or equipment better, please call me
at 260-768-4743 or e-mail manager1@
shipshewana.org. One of the primary
goals of the Park Board for 2014 will be
developing ideas for making the park
system more financially sustainable
in the future. More ball diamonds are
needed, as are lights so that games can
be played in the evening. We need more
parking and better marked entrances
to fields so that everyone knows where
to go and where to park. More users
of our park system will mean economic growth for the community and
that should be very rewarding to the
businesses in Shipshewana. Let’s get
behind the park system by volunteering and donating and make ours the
envy of other communities.
The Town Council is very excited to
see the plans of Lakepark Industries to
add a substantial amount of equipment
to the Shipshewana location as well as
approximately $200,000 in the facility.
The company will also add 12 jobs as
this expansion project moves forward
between 2014 and 2017. Our wonderful soccer complex where we recently
hosted the “Summer Soccer Shootout”,
received many compliments from
visiting teams and families and is clear
evidence of Lakepark’s commitment to
the Shipshewana community and our
children. The company is an excellent
corporate citizen and contributor to
the community and currently employs
nearly 200 people.
We have experienced some problems at the compost site and have been
forced to curtail hours. The new hours
are 7 am to 4 pm, Monday through Saturday. The facility is for use by Town
residents only as a place to discard
limbs, leaves and other vegetation. It
is not a dump site or a place to drop
metal, cement, or household waste.
Please make note of the new hours for
the compost facility and please remember that “compost” does not in any way
spell “dump”.
School is in session and kids are
out! Watch for children as you drive
around the community and please
abide by suggested parking locations
at the soccer complex and throughout town.
