Local
Ironman

On Sunday, August 25, local
athlete Lyle Bontrager and several
others from the area made the trip to
Louisville, Kentucky to participate in
the Louisville Ironman competition.
Participants were required to swim
2.4 miles, bike 112 miles and run
26.2 miles.
Lyle’s times were, 1:22:14, 6:05:34
and 3:24:10 in the swim, bike and run
respectively. His total time with transitions was 11:05:24. Other local participants were, Jerald Schrock (11:30:36),
Brian Schroth (10:58:46), Gene Crusie
(12:58:32) and John Morse (16:00:36).
The athletes logged a total of 140.6
miles in all the events. Lyle finished
an impressive 249th out of 3000
participants.
“I had always wanted to do an
Ironman and this just seemed to be
the right time,” said Lyle. He had
participated in the Boston Marathon
last spring and had been training ever
since. PalletOne of Shipshewana was
Lyle’s sponsor for the event.
