LaGrange County Community Band by Abby Wenger The LaGrange Community Band is a volunteer based band that meets during the summer months of June through August. This group is for anyone high school age on up who wants to pick up their instrument again and play some good music. This past year, the band was directed by Hank Gore of LaGrange. The band had eight rehearsals and five performances. The music ranges from marches to jazz to musical numbers. Some of the popular tunes from this year included Stars and Stripes, Mack the Knife, Barnum and Bailey’s Circus, pg 60 · The Hometown Treasure · September ‘12 Battle Hymn of the Republic, National Emblem, South Pacific and Sound of Music. Sometimes, music will be picked that will feature a certain section, like Trumpeters Wild or Trombone Blues. Others will feature a soloist, like Concerto for Trumpet that was played by Hank Gore. Concerts are usually held in Howe, LaGrange, Shipshewana, and Topeka. This year there were around twenty members who attended practices and concerts regularly. If you are interested in becoming a part of this Community Band, you can contact Hank Gore, who will again be directing next year, by phone, 260-463-2403 or email at [email protected].
