often I find components that need airflow around
them are tightly packed in by nesting material placed
by rodents. And to add to that, most pests also use the
appliance for a potty, causing corrosion and seriously
foul smells to be created in a short amount of time.
Take preventive measures to prevent pests from
entering your appliances. A clean environment will
deter pests as well as enhance the longevity of any
appliance. Doing your best in eradicating the pest when
you see one is going to help you out in the long run,
when you know they’ll find a hiding place somewhere.
Earwigs and roaches get in between contact points,
mice get into fan blades, and snakes get into sump
pump motors, along with many more combinations
of things that can happen when pests are involved.
Even a microscopic spider can cause gas components
to fail. When pests are not controlled, they become a
health hazard as well. If you need to store appliances
for a period of time, make sure you do your best to
keep pests from destroying your investment. Let them
know they are not welcome!

We humans like to build homes in locations
that were inhabited by creatures before we arrived,
disrupting their homes. In nearly thirty years as
an appliance tech, I continue to see new ways that
rodents and insects can bring an appliance to a halt.
In many cases, the culprit loses its life in the process
of destroying the intended function of the appliance,
and sometimes causing an odor that smells like a gas
leak, causing unnecessary concern. Being in the wrong
place at the right time causes fans, relays, switches,
and electrical circuits to malfunction, thus causing a
complete shutdown or jeopardizing the unit over a
period of time. The appliance may simply be a hiding
place for the pests, while at other times it can be the
warmth of the components that attract them. Quite
