our first time playing together, I think we’re already
doing well. I mean, we still have things to work on, but
we’re getting there,” said Schwartz.
Boys’ Soccer
The Westview boys’ soccer team is ready to start
another season under the direction of Coach Dennis
Berkey. Westview played their first game against
Wawasee High School on August 16th and won 5-0.
Senior, Dom Hunter led the way, scoring three goals
to complete the hat trick. The other two goals were
scored by juniors Parker Fought and Austin Borg.
Adrian Brandenberger saved everything that came his
way as he held the Wawasee Warriors scoreless.
The Warrior players know that the season is a long
road but many feel like they can have a very good year.
Senior Travis Dowdy is one of these players. He feels
that the squad needs to “play together as a team and
focus on what needs to be done. The senior leadership
is going to be responsible for much of the Warriors
success.”
Dowdy said that as a senior he will try to make sure
he is “always making the most out of practices.” He
also said that he wants to set a “good example for the
underclassmen.” Dowdy believes that setting a good
example for the underclassmen will help the team
tremendously.
“I think all of the underclassmen have the ability
to help the team greatly.”
The leadership shown by Coach Berkey has been
a positive cornerstone for the Warrior soccer program
for many years now. Dowdy said the best thing about
playing for Coach Berkey is that “he enjoys having fun
as well as making sure we get everything done that we
need to during practices.” The Warriors have a solid
team lined up as they are led by seniors Dom Hunter,
Jared Berkey, Travis Dowdy, Adrian Brandenberger,
Conrad Frey, Tristan Good, and Zac Stoltzfus. However,
there are a couple concerns for the team.
There have been some injuries on the defensive
side that has hurt them. The team is also being plagued
by a lack of substitutes. On the other side of the ball,
their offense has more than enough speed to “burn”
their opponents. They also have plenty of experience
to go around.
The Warriors have a tough schedule ahead of them
as they only have three home games all season long.
However, it doesn’t seem to be bothering the team.
If anything, they’re excited to be challenged. One of
the “big games” this season will be against Northridge.
Others will include Bethany High School and the
tournament at Carrol High School.
New Amish Musical to Celebrate Its 100th Performance
The Amish musical, “The Confession,” has reached
a milestone at The Blue Gate Theater in Shipshewana.
Based on Beverly Lewis’ bestselling novel, “The
Confession” officially reached its 100th performance
on August 23rd.
Word of the Indiana musical has been spreading,
evidenced by increased tourism to the Shipshewana
