Shipshewana Town News There will be a number of events occurring in Shipshewana that attract thousands of visitors to our community this October. Starting with the “Fall Crafters Fair” on October 3, 4 and 5, Shipshewana will be a hub of activity. For those who appreciate seeing and hearing quality artisans, quilters, carvers, painters, musicians and even cloggers there will be a number in town to listen to or watch. Our local stores will be very active providing opportunities to expand the “shopping experience.” The Flea Market continues each Tuesday and Wednesday throughout October and the Antique Toy Auction is scheduled for October 16. All in all, it should be a very busy October in Shipshewana. In early November the holiday season kicks-off with the Light Parade on November 9 at 6 pm. It will be followed by the return of “Spike and The Bulldogs” to the Shipshewana Event Center from 8 pm to 11 pm. Tickets for one of the more iconic musical groups in this area are available at the Event Center by calling 768-3021. Get your tickets and enjoy some great old “Rock n’ Roll” on November 9 at the Event Center. The work on the Town Hall and the Wolfe Building has been completed. All of the work was done by J.H. Construction Company of Shipshewana and the design provides an attractive and “new look” entrance to the building. The facilities now have improved insulation that will reduce energy use and the new roof line corrects the leaks experienced over the last few years. On the interior of the building, a new wall was constructed to give more separation between Town administration and pg 26 · The Hometown Treasure · October ‘13 the police department so that each of their specific duties can be carried out without conflicting with the other. The Wolfe Building has new window shades replacing those that have been there since it was built in 1975. The Morton Street extension is into the second phase of construction and it is hoped that that will be completed before winter arrives. The third and final stage is the reconstruction and resurfacing of North Street. This phase will occur if all goes well, in the summer of 2014. In other construction, Interra Credit Union broke ground for its new facility on Berkshire Drive on September 23 and it’s expected to be completed February or March of 2014. The Shipshewana Car Museum will be sporting a new occupant when by Mike Sutter a 1939 Farmall tractor is donated to the facility. The tractor was used by the Strayer family to farm acreage on the east side of LaGrange County and finally came under the ownership of Jerry Strayer. Jerry asked Churubusco resident Steve Blevins to help rebuild the tractor, but unfortunately passed away before it could be completed. Steve took on the project in memory of Jerry and completed the work in tribute to him. This beautiful unit will be on permanent display in the gift shop area of the Event Center/Museum and will connect visitors to our rich and long standing tradition of farming in LaGrange County. Fall will bring leaves and that brings a desire to burn leaves. Please remember that there is a “No Burn- FREE ESTIMATES! 59323 CR 35 Middlebury, IN 46540 We Specialize In Customer Satisfaction!
