Senior Spotlight Brooke Schwartz Above: Senior Brooke Schwartz prepares to kick the ball away from her Central Noble opponent in the NECC Championship Game on Saturday, Sept. 15. Below: 7th Grader Libby Martin goes for a powerhouse of a kick in the game against Lakeland on Thursday, Sept. 20. “The real” Brooke Schwartz is nothing like her tough persona that she exudes on the soccer field. Underneath her jersey lies a heart of gold. For the people that know her, they are fortunate enough to have a great friend who will always have their back. For the people that really know her, they are also fully aware that she has her “blonde moments.” Over the summer at a bonfire at the Schwartz home, she was warning her friends not to drop anything on the ground because she didn’t want “all of the coons to show up.” When she’s at school, safely away from the raccoons that she so despises, she’s involved in many different activities. She has played soccer all four years, plans on playing basketball for her fourth year this winter, is a member of the National Honor Society, the Spanish club, and PLUS. “[Soccer] in general is a blast to me. It also helps that the team gets along well and is able to have a lot of fun during practices and games,” said Schwartz. Her friends/teammates are the reason she’s stuck with the sport for so long. Her favorite high school sports memory took place her junior season. “Last year’s team made it to regional and that was definitely an accomplishment and it was a lot of fun to make it further into the tournament,” she said. Her coaches have played a big role in Schwartz’s commitment to the sport. “They’ve honestly helped me in a lot of ways. From the many drills we do, to helping the team connect as a unit, to just being there for encouragement. They’ve done a lot for us.” More photos online at sports.thehometowntreasure.com Sports photos by Abby Wenger favorite teachers have been Mrs. Dawn Cowley and Mr. Ryan Glassman. Schwartz schooling isn’t over after she graduates in May. She is planning on attending a four year university. There are a few schools she’s interested in attending, but nothing is “set in stone,” according to her. Although her schooling isn’t over, her soccer career will be after this fall. “I’ll miss soccer a lot but I don’t plan on continuing to play.” Before she leaves Westview she has words of wisdom she would like Schwartz also couldn’t forget to to instill in her fellow underclassmen. mention Westview’s faithful student section. “They’ve definitely added more “Make sure your grades are good, but motivation and excitement to the sea- don’t take it too seriously.
