Healthy Hearts ?Healthy Homes by Brenda Yoder, Education & Program Director at Elijah Haven Crisis Intervention Center Elijah Haven Crisis Intervention Center is committed to serving our community in the prevention of violence in and out of the home, and breaking the cycle of violence that seems to be increasing in society. We commend the Shipshewana Police Department for also committing to the prevention of violence for the most vulnerable and precious commodity of our community, our children. We were privileged to be able to partner with them this past summer in introducing a great program called RadKids for elementary age kids to our community. RadKids is an empowerment and safety program for kids that provides children with hope, options, and practical skills to recognize, avoid and escape violence and abuse. The Shipshewana Police Department has trained officers in the RadKids curriculum to educate community children in personal safety, empowerment, and bully prevention. Through RadKids training, children learn to replace fear, confusion, and panic of dangerous situations with confidence, personal safety skills, and self-esteem. The curriculum includes topics including such as unity safety, vehicle and personal safety, stranger danger, and a variety of other topics. RadKids has been featured on the Today Show, Good Morning America, CBS News.com, and CNN Primetime. We are excited to have this program in our community, and praise the Shipshewana Police Department for stepping out and providing this training to the community! It doesn’t take a parent or one working with kids in the schools long to know education in personal safety for kids is as important as reading, writing, and math these days. We would encourage anyone who has interest in learning more about RadKids training for your child, classroom, or Yoder Insurance Agency, LLC. Exceeding Expectations Agents: Brent Hoober & Regina K. We also want to thank many merchants who also assisted in violence prevention this past summer by providing opportunities for awareness and fund-raising for programs and services helping those affected by violence. Special thanks to the Davis Mercantile Merchants, Reigsecker Marketplace, Yoder’s Department Store, The Hometown Treasure, and Hostetler Variety Store for support and encouragement in these areas. Through education and awareness for children and adults of all ages, we can “each one reach one” for a safer, healthier community.
