Sports Scoop ... cont. from 26 down but it’s really just heating up. They still have big games against West Noble and Bethany. The team recently lost to West Noble and are looking for revenge. “West Noble is a big game because it’s for the conference championship. Bethany is going to be a big game because it will be a good challenge and test us as a team,” said Hunter. With the veteran team the Warriors have assembled, they have the potential to head deep into the post season. This feeling resides within the Warrior team as well. Hunter says he thinks the team can at least make it to regionals, if not further. Hopefully they can play up to their expectations. “We have a chance to do some pretty great things,” said Brandenberger. “We just have to stick together and play hard.” The Westview girls team is also having a terrific season. The girls have a winning record only losing two games. They have also had games ending in a tie against Plymouth and Goshen high schools. Junior Brooke Schwartz is very positive so far about the season and thinks the team is just getting better. “I think we’re working more as a team and less as individuals. Also our foot skills and defensive skills have shown a little improvement I think.” The improvement of the team shows how dedicated the Lady Warriors are. If an experienced team is working towards getting better, they have the power to dominate. The team working together also shows that they are dedicated to their coach. John Jantzi has done a great job this season getting the girls to where they are. The season is wrapping up but the girls too, also have big games ahead. The games that Schwartz is looking forward to are against Argos and Culver Academy. “They’ll both be really tough,” she said. However, she expects that the Warriors can win the games. She has confidence is her teammates as well. Schwartz points towards Skyler Carpenter to help the offense score the points. “Michele Mowery and Jeslyn Zimmerly really control the midfield which is key,” said Schwartz. The girls team is playing their best at the right moment. This should translate into a successful end of the season. Westview Volleyball The Westview Volleyball program has made several strides towards turning their program around. The teams record is hovering right around .500 and it could be even better if not for all the close losses. “Most of the games we lost, we should have and could have won. We would win a game and then lost the rest somehow,” said Kelsey Carmack. Carmack is a junior and is one of the vital leaders of the team. This is exemplified by the teams match against Wawasee high school. The squad was down to five games and they were down six to twelve. Then the team came from behind and won the game seventeen to fifteen. Carmack said the comeback was fueled by their intensity and some “amazing plays.” The team is also very talented this season. Carmack highlights Candice Chupp and Sabrina Whitaker. Although she didn’t want to make any teammate feel less important. “Candice Chupp’s passes are at her target pretty much every time and her serves have really improved this past year too. She has definitely stepped up and become a vocal leader. You can always hear her talking on the court. Sabrina’s had a lot of solo blocks and her hitting is really good too.” The volleyball team is only continuing to get better and a lot of it seems to be credited to Brohm. The Westview program for volleyball will only grow and get better.
