The Library Board’s policy was that any citizen living within the three political divisions would have free use of the library. All other county citizens would have to pay $1.00 a year for library privileges. In 1928, John W. Hanan, who was also president of the Old Settlers’ Association, wrote that, “There are now about five thousand volumes in the library and it is used extensively.” He went on to say that as many as 400 books were checked out in one day. Over the years the LaGrange Carnegie Library provided a great service to the public schools as well as the reading public.
