the status of the economy. The board is
now moving on towards a lease from a
“bond bank.” The lease would be anywhere from 3 to 5 years.
The 2012 retirement rate has been
set at 3% for 2012. The rate has been at
3% in previous years and the board felt
like it was a good rate.
If you are a citizen of Shipshewana
and are concerned about the rate increases or the 2012 budget, this might
make you feel more secure. Shipshewana’s independent financial consultant, Greg Guerrettaz said that “We’re
(Shipshewana) maintaining services at
a lower cost.” This
means that the lack
of funds will be less
severe because they
are managing very
well.

eighth meeting
in Shipshewana
opened up a formally closed door
for the Shipshewana
police department.
During the August
11th meeting, Shipshewana Police Marshall, Tom Fitch,
wanted to replace
a K-9 vehicle. At
the time, members
of the board, Nate
Jones and Jerry
Rice, expressed their
concern with getting a new vehicle.
Board member Lynn
Bontrager was
opposed to waiting. Jones had said
that the car did not
seem like a necessity and Rice said
