Though it was a little inconvenient for a
while, the project was completed ahead
of schedule, as well as over $200,000
under the estimated cost. DLZ was the
engineering firm that engineered and
prepared the documents. We already
tend to forget how rough the road was
to drive on before reconstruction.
Other projects in progress was the
installation of the 8 inch water main
on South Main St. This improves the
volume for increased fire protection
and safer water consumption. The old
line was put in place in 1926 and had
lead joints. Now that is behind us.
Another street improvement is
scheduled. We will be repaving South
Main Street, south of the old viaduct
to the corporation limits and we will
also be paving Hawpatch Drive in the
industrial park.
The Town Council adopted
the 2012 budget the in amount of
$2,147,150 which was submitted
by Dewayne Bontrager
electronically to DLGF and notice of
receipt arrived at the Clerk’s office on
10/17/11. All funds are now transmitted electronically.
We welcome Jarrett Kauffman as
new street employee. Jarrett has a lot
of experience using industrial equipment. Jarrett will be your caretaker of
streets (sweeping, snow plowing, etc.)
and will also be involved with other
employees in various departments.
Topeka town employees work together
as a team and assist each other. When
you see Jarrett, welcome him.
This Thanksgiving, take time to
give thanks for the abundance of the
land and this home community. Take
time to breathe the fresh air. Recent
visitors in the community thought it
was spooky because it was so quiet in
the evening hours.
This is a blessing we tend to take
for granted.
