Students & Teacher Receive Scholastic Art Recognition Each year Westview students participate in the Scholastic Art Awards, a regional art and writing competition. The region in which Westview participates is quite competitive being ranked the fourth best region in the nation, falling short to major cities such as New York City. It is quite an honor to be recognized by the Scholastic competition and Westview is proud to announce that four students were honored after this year’s competition. Katie Hawk, a senior at Westview, received a Gold Key for her work in printmaking. Jenada Lambright, a 7th grader, received a Gold Key for her work in drawing. Zephenie Reed, a junior, was awarded a Silver Key for a printmaking piece and Jeannie Miller, a junior, received an honorable mention for a painting piece. All students were presented their awards at a ceremony held at the Grand Wayne Center in downtown Fort Wayne February 10, 2013. All awarded art pieces from the region were on exhibit at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art through April. Mrs. Jesse Martin, art teacher at Westview, was also honored at the awards ceremony at the Grand Wayne Center, in Fort Wayne. Mrs. Martin was given the Dick Blick Young Teacher Award. The award is given annually to two young teachers that exhibit dedication, and excellence, and is selected by FWMoA, Director of Children’s Education Max Meyer as part of the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. Mrs. Martin showed amazing dedication to her students by driving them 3 hours round trip monthly to FWMoA Art Club meetings giving them exposure to artwork being created by their peers and by professionals around the world. “I grew up in an incredibly small town, and it was teachers like Jesse Martin that opened up a world of possibilities for me as a young student.
