Students & Teacher Receive Scholastic Art Recognition
Each year Westview students participate in the Scholastic Art Awards,
a regional art and writing competition. The region in which Westview
participates is quite competitive being
ranked the fourth best region in the
nation, falling short to major cities
such as New York City. It is quite an
honor to be recognized by the Scholastic competition and Westview is proud
to announce that four students were
honored after this year’s competition.
Katie Hawk, a senior at Westview,
received a Gold Key for her work in
printmaking. Jenada Lambright, a
7th grader, received a Gold Key for her
work in drawing. Zephenie Reed, a
junior, was awarded a Silver Key for a
printmaking piece and Jeannie Miller,
a junior, received an honorable mention for a painting piece. All students
were presented their awards at a ceremony held at the Grand Wayne Center
in downtown Fort Wayne February
10, 2013. All awarded art pieces from
the region were on exhibit at the Fort
Wayne Museum of Art through April.
Mrs. Jesse Martin, art teacher
at Westview, was also honored at the
awards ceremony at the Grand Wayne
Center, in Fort Wayne. Mrs. Martin
was given the Dick Blick Young Teacher
Award. The award is given annually to
two young teachers that exhibit dedication, and excellence, and is selected
by FWMoA, Director of Children’s
Education Max Meyer as part of the
Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.
Mrs. Martin showed amazing dedication to her
