This book is a collection of interviews of 22 young men, and in some cases their wives, who chose alternative service rather than participation in the military from 1942 through 1970. Their decisions of conscience led them from Rhode Island to Mississippi and from Greece to Indonesia. The stories were compiled by the Kern Road Mennonite Peace and Justice Committee.
