WJHS Track Teams Cruise to LLC Title
Both the boys and girls Westview
Junior High track teams captured
Land of Lakes Conference championships at Fairfield in May. The boys
team won with a score of 117.5
points. The next closest team was
Fairfield with 106 points. Westview’s
Zach Miller was high point scorer in
the meet with 34 points. Miller won
the discus, long jump, was second
place in the shot put, and third
place in the 200 meter dash. Placing
second for Westview were Braden
Reynolds in the 800, the 4x100 relay
team of Matthew Byler, Gage Taylor,
Gunnar Eagleson, and Caleb Mishler,
and lastly the 4x400 relay team of
Derek Chupp, Logan Lewton, Marcus
Troyer, and Matthew Byler. The boys
team has now won four of the last six
conference titles.
The Westview girls team won
with a score of 106 points. The next
closest team was Central Noble with
84 then Lakeland and Fairfield tied
with 81 points. The only individual
winner of an event was Taryn Pruitt
in the 100 meter hurdles. Placing second for Westview was Kathy Franklin
in the 800m, Jenson Reynolds in the
mile, Taryn Pruitt in the long jump,
Alyssa Hart in the shot put, Emily
Miller in the discus, and the 4x400
meter relay team of Summer Konkle,
Sierra Kimmell, Taylor Trittipo, and
Maggie McCoy. The girls team has
now won six of the last seven conference titles. Coach Don Williams commented, “The kids ran really well. A
lot of kids had personal bests in their
events and (coach Les Hively) and I
are really proud of them. This is actually the third conference title in a row
for both the boys and the girls which
means we get to keep the traveling
trophy.” Combined, the boys and girls
have won 10 of the last 14 Jr. High
track conference titles.
