mind-set of the team. “Our defense has really become
solid as the year has gone on. We’ve been complimented
numerous times by the opposing teams, saying we’ve
had one of the best defensive efforts they’ve seen,”
proclaimed Miller.
Some of the defensive efforts can be traced back
to the young catcher, Brooke Yoder. “She’s been an
awesome catcher and pitcher. She has also been great
offensively,” said Miller.
The team has only one direction to go next season,
up. “If we could improve the number of girls we have so
we have more options, that would help tremendously.
Also, having more key players like pitchers and
catchers,” said Miller.
The team is hoping to acquire a few more players
for next season. Then hopefully, that will translate
into more wins.
Westview Baseball
The Westview baseball team has made major
strides as they have improved greatly since last season.
Last season the Warriors finished the year with a 9-18
record. Through May 23rd, the team was 12-16 with
the sectionals left to play.
Over the course of the season the Warriors have
been faced with several injuries. These injuries included
senior Zac Mishler (pulled hamstring), and juniors
Jared Berkey (hip) and Brant Yoder (ankle). However,
the injuries have just been one more obstacle the team
has overcome.
During the injuries, other players have had to
step up. These players happened to include a strong
freshman class that included Judah Zickafoose and
Jamar Weaver. These two outstanding freshman also
happened to be named to the All-Conference team.
Zickafoose was second on the team in batting average
hitting .407. He also led the team with seven stolen
bases. Weaver’s batting average is .348 and he is leading
the team in extra base hits. Weaver has also made his
mark on the mound this season. During 31.2 innings
of work he has an ERA of 1.77 along with a 6.7 mark
of strikeouts per seven innings pitched.
“The freshman were a great addition to the team
this season as they have really stepped up for us. Jamar
and Judah especially because of the production they
bring to the plate. I’m excited to see how they keep
improving as their high school careers continue,” said
one junior member of the team.
As the sectionals approach the team, tension is
