Westview School Board
by Jerry Hostetler
Brian Christner of Wolcottville
was hired as the new Director of Finance for the Westview School Corporation. Christner will take the place
of Bob Evans who resigned at the end
of the school year to take a job in the
Goshen School system.
Christner comes to Westview
after serving as treasurer at Liberty
Homes for seventeen years. He is
married to Westview graduate Lorilee
(Mast) Christner and they have three
children.
In addition to accepting the resignation of Bob Evans and approving the
hiring of Brian Christner, the board
also approved text book fees for next
school year, no changes are expected.
In other school board business, Jim
Hostetler, Director of Buildings,
Grounds and Transportation, reported
that some portions of the high school
roof need to be repaired and that he
would like to get quotes or bids to do
the work. Bob Evans reported that
the lighting system in the high school
auditorium needs to be replaced and
the cost could be in the $70,000 range.
Quotes for the new equipment will be
presented at the July meeting.
Superintendant Randy Zimmerly
presented a letter from the Town of
Shipshewana stating the town would
no longer provide a crossing guard for
the intersection of West Middlebury
Street and State Street. After discussion, Zimmerly was asked to contact
Shipshewana town officials to ask the
reason for their decision. The next
Westview School Board meeting will be
held Thursday, July 19.
Topeka Town News
It’s been a busy last couple of
months as the Town board has signed
tax abatements for three local companies in town that have seen growth in
business. S&H Metal, Crossroads RV
and Nishikawa Cooper LLC have all increased production, or had the need to
update equipment. We’d like to thank
all our businesses in town for their
continued support of Topeka.
The first rounds of projects are
complete in town with the South
Main project and part of Hawpatch,
with more projects to begin later this
summer.
The Town of Topeka will be hosting
the 4th of July Celebrations on Wednesday the 4th. We invite everyone to come
out and enjoy all the activities being
held that day. The annual road run and
fun walk will start off the day, followed
by kid’s games in the park. The garden
tractor pulls start at 10:00 am (new
location on Babcock St.) and the horse
and pony pulls will be held in the Sale
barn arena. Food will be available all
day long. The annual softball tourney
will be held at East Park all day. The pa-
by Ron Eash
rade, starting at 5:30 pm, will feature
our nation’s flag with the theme, “It’s
a Grand ol’ Flag.” Then immediately
following the parade will be the buggy
races on North Main St. The day will be
topped off with music in the East Park
and fireworks at dusk. Come enjoy, and
have a safe and fun 4th of July Holiday.
In closing, “A perfect summer day
is when the sun is shining, the wind is
blowing, the birds are singing and the
lawn mower is broken”.
Tiffany’s Celebrates 25 Years
Tiffany’s Restaurant in Topeka celebrated its 25th anniversary in style on
June 6th with a classic car cruise-in,
customer appreciation discounts, and a
live remote broadcast with WFRN-FM
personality Cody Collier. Collier also
participated in the cruise-in by driving
his classic car to the event.
When Fritz and Tina Helmuth purchased the business 25 years ago it was
little more than a drive-in featuring
hamburgers and ice cream. They named
it “Tiffany’s” in honor of their daughter
whose birthday also happens to be on
June 6th. Over the years they added
to their menu as well as the building.
Today it is famous for their pies and
Amish-Mennonite cooking.

Gary Yoder, Tiffany’s manager,
stated that some 63 classic cars and
trucks showed up for the event. They
also served
up 320 free
hotdogs to
the children
who came to
play on the
inflated play
equipment
that had been
rented for the
occasion.
Tiffany’s

on the third
Monday evening of the month during
the summer. Proceeds from the cruisein go to the local food pantry.
