The Senecals have 250 watercraft available for rental at their canoe livery. The Trading Post is the second largest canoe livery in Indiana. A lot of pride is taken by the Senecals in choosing their fleet of watercraft and they’ve chosen to invest in only high quality inventory. Avid canoeists and kayakers will recognize the names We-no-nah, Jackson, Old Town and Mad River. There are a variety of different sized kayaks available at the Trading Post to accommodate all shapes and sizes of individuals, including kids’ sizes. Kayaking and canoeing are not limited to the summer months at the Trading Post, in fact as Jessalyn emphasized, “This river is absolutely phenomenal in the fall.” She continued to say, “A lot of people in this area think that they have to go up into Michigan to see the fall colors, but the colors on this river are absolutely spectacular.” So, all you need are jeans and a sweatshirt and your trip down the river in the fall will be very enjoyable and comfortable. Canoeing and kayaking at the Trading Post is available through the month of October. Th e Trading Post has adopted all twenty-six miles of the Pigeon River that runs through the fish and wildlife area. “We do multiple organized river cleanups every year,” said Jesslyn. She went on to say, “The beauty that’s here, we want to keep here.” John interjected, “We pride ourselves in keeping the river clean and we’ve found that even if you get a person that normally wouldn’t care if they threw trash out, if they see that there isn’t any or very little trash along the way, they’ll think twice before they throw their trash out.” The Senecals also hold an Indiana state permit that allows them to clear brush and limbs from the river to maintain passage.
