the Pigeon River. The Senecals have
250 watercraft available for rental at
their canoe livery. The Trading Post
is the second largest canoe livery in
Indiana. A lot of pride is taken by the
Senecals in choosing their fleet of
watercraft and they’ve chosen to invest
in only high quality inventory. Avid
canoeists and kayakers will recognize
the names We-no-nah, Jackson, Old
Town and Mad River. There are a variety of different sized kayaks available
at the Trading Post to accommodate all
shapes and sizes of individuals, including kids’ sizes.
Kayaking and canoeing are not
limited to the summer months at the
Trading Post, in fact as Jessalyn emphasized, “This river is absolutely phenomenal in the fall.” She continued to
say, “A lot of people in this area think
that they have to go up into Michigan
to see the fall colors, but the colors on
this river are absolutely spectacular.”
So, all you need are jeans and a sweatshirt and your trip down the river
in the fall will be very enjoyable and
comfortable. Canoeing and kayaking at
the Trading Post is available through
the month of October.
Th e Trading Post has adopted all
twenty-six miles of the Pigeon River
that runs through the fish and wildlife
area. “We do multiple organized river
cleanups every year,” said Jesslyn. She
went on to say, “The beauty that’s here,
we want to keep here.” John interjected, “We pride ourselves in keeping
the river clean and we’ve found that
even if you get a person that normally
wouldn’t care if they threw trash out,
if they see that there isn’t any or very
little trash along the way, they’ll think
twice before they throw their trash
out.” The Senecals also hold an Indiana state permit that allows them to
clear brush and limbs from the river to
maintain passage.
When winter comes, what do the
Senecals do to keep busy? When asked
